Join Advance LA for a fun social-recreational summer program for young adults between the ages 18-22. This program is specially designed for young adults with mild to intensive support needs who face challenges with learning, language, attention, social interaction, or sensory processing. Build confidence, practice social and essential life skills, and take steps towards independence while having fun and forging new friendships. Let’s make this summer unforgettable!

Programs:

Foundations: For young adults with more intensive support needs
Summer is a time for FUN! We will be working on art-based activities, cooking, music and making friends! This on-campus track is designed to teach and reinforce independent living skills. Covering grooming and hygiene, time management, an introduction to cooking, adaptive communication and more, this setting is designed to model the responsibilities expected of our young adults as they enter the next stage of their lives. One-on-one support may be available for an additional fee.

Essentials: For young adults with moderate support needs
Summertime is the perfect time to make new friends, learn new skills and have FUN! In addition to life skills training, our campers will engage in activities like art, music, cooking and navigating friendships. Our hybrid model uses on-site activities to teach new skills (i.e. public transportation use, cooking, gardening) for those that may not yet be ready for independent community-based outings, while utilizing shorter and less-frequent off-campus activities to apply newly learned skills in a more supervised setting. This setting will introduce concepts of public transportation and safe practices in the community while promoting cooperation and partnership amongst participants through engaging activities.

Explorations: For young adults with mild support needs
This summer, we want to see our young adults grow and learn out in the world! Our off-campus track is designed to promote appropriate social interaction during activities as well as during reflection following each event. Young adults will explore the city through all-day excursions that include sports, cinema, wildlife education, financial literacy, and social skills instruction. Skills reinforced in this setting include engaging in reciprocal conversation, expanding and maintaining one’s social circle, as well as breaking out of one’s comfort zone to try new things.
